Re: phillipines, manaila, makati

Thanks to all bros for sharing, although I do not have new info here, I thought I should also share my experience on my 1 day trip in manila.

Upon arrival checked in to Copacabana hotel (book from Agoda) which is just directly accross the road from EDSA. Since it's still early I went to SM Mall near by (P60 by taxi) for early lunch and window shopping. This mall is huge, can spend a whole day walking around if got nothing to do. At around 3pm took a taxi from the mall to Flight168 spa (P150 by taxi, actual cost lesser but the driver say no change).

When I am inside Flight168, was ask to pay P2000 at the counter (and pay the girl P2000 later after the service) then proceed to select a girl for the service. There were about 30/40 girls there, I picked #36 which to me is consider cute. The captain then took me to the massage room, when in the room he pretend to show me this and that, at the end I have to tip him P50 to get rid of him. The rest of it with #36 is quite SOP, I will just skip this part, overall satisfactory.

After Flight168 was feeling a bit hungry so I took a taxi back to SM Mall again, this time cost me around P150 due to a bit of traffic jam. Gave the driver P200 but he said he has no small change (again??!!!). I told him no problem, I will get down and come back after getting some change, he disagreed and after some negotiating he suddenly said he found some change. WTF... Anyway, after my early dinner decided to gp back to my hotel and get some rest.... taxi fare to hyotel about P70.

At around 8.30pm I decided to continue my adventure again, came out from my hotel, took the walkway bridge and walk over to EDSA, it's just less than 5 minutes of slow walk.

There are about 6/7 bars inside of EDSA, firehouse, casino, cotton, etc... Not sure if it's a Sunday night or it's too early, saw only about average 2 to 3 customers in every bar. I check out all the bars (look see look see), didn't order any drink. Seems that all the bars there has a same owner other than Cotton. I was quoted bar fine in all of them P1950, ladies drink P235 (+/-), ST 3 hours P2400-P3000, ON P4000-P5000. Was trying to negotiate with the MMS, told her I was here few months ago, omly paid around P1500 bar fine and additional P1000 to the girl but this didn't work out quite well.

At the end I picked a girl #28 from one of the bar (forgot the name), the bar is directly facing the building main entrance, she is fair, slim, with big spot lights, justmy type of girl. Paid bar fine P1950 + P235 (mimimum 1 drink for the girl) + P3000 (ST). Didn't stay for drink, went back with her directly to my hotel.

#28 is quite friendly (althoght her face can look very cold) and her service is also quite good (shower together, kissing, bbbj, quite GFE), just like making out with GF. Overall experience satisfactory.

After sending her off I took a nap, woke up at 4am, then check out, took a taxi to airport. Hired a meter taxi again but the driver charged me P300 without using the meter. Since it's so early, can be difficult to get another taxi if I decline so I didn't argue with him, probably I am paying double the usual meter rate. For my whole Manila trip, I think dealing with taxi driver is my worst experience... Damn....

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati

For taking taxi in Manila, normally if the meter is 120p, I give about 140p. Dont ask me why cause that what my gf did always.

Also Rule No. 1 is to have small change because most drivers like to play stunts claim no change here or there. And yes, taxi to Airport, they always want a fixed amount like 200-300p cause they claim they can't pick up customer.

If I have taxi driver who pick me and send me to airport using meter (no hanky panky business), I will give the meter + 100p as tip as a kind gesture.

Having the same bar fine does not necessarily mean same owner. It means Oligopoly. They all gang up together and set a price at which to fleece the customer. Similar to the telecom operators (SingTel, Starhub) or taxi companies (Comfort, TransCab, SMRT Taxis, Premier etc) here.

Secondly I just returned from Bangkok and realized everywhere the barfine is standard i.e. 600 Baht and 2500 Baht for ST. This works out to S$ 125 all in.
What you paid 1950P for barfine and 3000 for ST works out to S$146.

So, I wonder why Manila with fewer tourists, and in need of more tourists and their $$$ is charging so high ? And this number is for EDSA. Burgos prices are even crazier !!!

You have to understand the PI biz mentality. It works in REVERSE.
When biz is down rather than get more biz with attractive offers, they simply raise the rates to make up for the difference to the bottom line.

Mostly true but not always. There are a fair # of honest taxi around but just no guarantees which is which.
I use to get chopped all the time in Manila using the taxi to get around. But smarter now. Best thing to learn if ever wanna play in Manila again and again, try to learn to use their city bus services and jeepneys. All in each trip is only 8-10p and sometimes get there at same time as taxi depending on traffic jams. ex.Depending on where you are located, a trip to Intl airport from a hotel in Ermita will only cost about 20p. (8p for the jeepney, then take the ac public bus to airport for 12p that runs along EDSA road). And no tips needed.
But not doable at 430am as jeepneys run 24/7 but not the bus as they mainly start around 5-530am.

As I been saying, in PH, they don't mind killing the Golden Egg Laying goose, if they can get an extra egg today.. forget about tomorrow ;) That's PH logic ..

Generally, other than making sure you don't fall into common traps, like "No change" or .. "I have to pick a friend" or .. "I know a better way" etc. which are normally overcome with a threat to call LTFRB or take a picture of the car number and visibly act like emailing to LTFRB ..

Use common sense .. :) to avoid getting chopped ..one more thing is, carry less luggage, so, say one bag, you can put in yourself, than carry large case where you need the driver to help, driver will put in and then drive off minus you (never happened to me or anybody I know, but I hear in local news of this .. ) and when driver insist on picking his friend, tell him to fuck off as his friend may suddenly have a knife/gun ..

Hi Bros,

Just a word of caution from personal experience.

We flagged a taxi from the arrival hall, heading to starfleet for some last min fun before heading home. As our taxi leaving the terminal, a "co-driver" hopped on and start making comments about other place where we could find fun.

Suddenly we found ourself, taken for a ride and as we are approaching starfleet.. Co-driver commented that the journey from airport will cost us 15kp:eek: and USD120+.. tried to negotiate out of the deal bring no success.

Realised we were locked in as well, car door fail to open from inside.
Fortunately, the scam taxi stoped by a petrol station for a refill and the station attendants help to open the door from the outside.

Well, we managed to get out safely and taking refuge in a Mcdonalds... any bros here had similar experience??

I wrote about being careful with drivers who take in a friend ..

If you call cops, the driver goes scot free, as per PH law, the driver is blameless as the crime was committed by somebody other than driver .. screw their legal system

If somebody gets in, quickly start taking picture of the taxi plate # and call LTFRB ..

and if you can, also call a friend, any friend, and say you are being taken for ride

one of the reason I travel light in Manila and visibly take down taxi number etc is to tell the driver I am not newbie ...

Did you call LTFRB ?

Not just taxis, a lot of things are scary in Manila ..

Hi Bro,

we didnt take down his # plate. well we were lucky, the taxi stop-by a petrol station for a refill and the attendant had help us open the door from the outside. i bet he muz be hopping mad his plan was working till the very end. had he find more friends we will be probably robbed.

well, end of day, we manage to get out safely no harm.. much added experience learnt..

what is this LTFRB?? to other bros travelling to PH, do take care..
