Manila per-se, is made of the following "CITIES"

City of Manila and the surrounding cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela, as well as the Municipality of Pateros.

And "CITY" hear means, well, say Woodlands City, Sembawang City ..

So, if you are going to be based in Makati, you can hit any place in Manila, which is just like between 30 minutes to 45 minutes by taxi, off peak hour

I believe you won't go looking for chicks at peak hour, so that's ok

Now, Pasig is next to Makati - I mean you can walk cross by foot ... if you are in boundary, but Filipinos will fiercely demand you respect each "CITY" ..

Though in true sense, the whole of Manila is just one CITY ..

Apart from what Longitude told, with my info, now you know - it isn't that much trouble to go to Edsa, Makati, and all over .. as long as you are not in a rush

carrot by taxi driver is a risk you have to take, if you are going to Manila .. other areas are not so bad like Manila

taxi, rule #1: have small change.

If your fare is 90 peso and you give 1000, forget the change.

If your fare is 990 and you give 1000, forget the change (yes, even the 10 peso will not come back)

If the driver try to bargain, tell him, meter, and if he say x peso on top of meter, tell him, No, I will call LTFRB- or I will take another taxi .. or pretend you are calling somebody and ask the driver "what is your plate no? " ..

taxi, rule #2:

If they driver has a friend getting in, get out .. don't stick in the taxi. the friend maybe a friend, or a guy the driver can't say no- and may lead to a hold-up / robbery

taxi, rule #3:

Travel light - except when going from/to airport - so you can quickly exit the taxi if the fellow is trying to be funny

taxi, rule #4:
Try to get the hotel security to stop a taxi, and tell him 'meter taxi' and keep a 20 or 50 peso to security- that 20 or 50 is much worth considering the kind of fares you may pay - 100 peso fare can be 1000 peso... if you are not careful

taxi, rule #5:
if you go to bars, don't pick taxi queing up front - most of them are waiting to pounce on you. If you smoke, light a stick and act not interested and stop a passing taxi

taxi, rule #6:
Now, if you can afford it, you can 'charter' a taxi for the whole day/night - if you can afford like 2000 peso or so for half a day (Night) just take it .. and make sure the driver doesn't earn a commission where ever you are going :D

One too many guys have suddenly seen their fare inflate as the taxi driver decided to get a cut from the bar/casa.

taxi, rule #7:

Try to stop taxis that are not pure white - I was told pure white are owner/operator taxis- and they have no qualms ripping you off, if that means going home early -> red horse and Jollibee and KTV

Those that have colours like green/red etc are company owned- and the drivers get a salary- the drivers are not hard up to rip you ..

I will be around Penisula hotel Manila for short trip. Is there any good reasonable place to hang out for food, beer, music?

Skip the lsb, they seem to be in the same price as Singapore. Or that's why I thought from the last few pages of this thread.

I hired a car with a driver. Costs more but save the hassle of arguing with cab drivers.
