It used to be No.1, but PRC govt actually monitors cross border movements of big sums of money to individual accounts, and suspicious transactions could lead to their accounts being frozen. Hence, many MLs/FLs "remit" their money through some middlemen.

From what I know, there are a number of PRC individuals that act as middlemen for "remittance", whereby the MLs/FLs hand their money to a middleman in Singapore and the middleman's partner in the PRC would transfer the equivalent amount into the MLs/FLs' PRC bank account. In this way, there is no cross border movement of the actual sums.

Wah actually now travelling to china is made so much more convenient and easier, not only do we have 15 days visa free, i read the other day that wechat and alipay now accepts foreign cards..

It is an offence not to accept cash payment. You can report them.

But I think the main inconvenience is they might not have ready change for you if you give them big notes.

Probably, Alipay is still the way to go.

You can download alipay and start put some RMB inside.

Maybe find China friend to help you.

Visited Guangzhou in May, while Alipay and WeChat are the common modes of payment, cash is still readily accepted in shops and restaurants. However, Didi requires either Alipay or WeChat. You can link Alipay to your credit card easily, so not much fuss really.

Best option is alipay as mentioned by some. Do note there is a limit of 2000RMB (if no changes) your foreign Alipone account can have each time.

Yea, I was thinking if got paynow, better for the ML that offer extra for money. Nowadays ppl generally don't like carry too much cash, so if not enough to top up, can't earn that extra.
