I got the same problem as you when I was at Crazy House a couple of weeks back. The bouncer at the door stopped me from entering. Only when I asked him why in English, did he let me in. But I left after taking one look at the entrance. I wondered why, perhaps I'm too tanned and as you mentioned, they turned me away thinking I'm local.
On the other hand, no such problems were faced at the rainbow bars. They welcomed me with open arms.
