to me pennant did reasonably well... i always liked him somehow... there is a certain buzz whenever he gets the ball and starts launching himself down the line...

yes, yes, that is the formation. what benitez wanted was for barry to provide a balanced midfield with a natural left-legged player and at the same time, able to provide better defensive cover. barry also possess a good passing range and can help with the attacks by arriving late in the box or shoot from outside the box. not to mention that he possesses a good cross as well.
but if keane comes as well, then i suspect benitez will play the spanish formation of 4-1-3-2 with mascherano as the sole holding midfield and keane playing the support striker's role.
