Are you a research graduate student too? If so, things are whole lot easier as you are able to help her QE especially with English language (if she has not done so..) and/or even assist her and her bf research. Also always try to go for lunch with both of them.
The importance of the suggestions above is to first get her attention; like a good foreign friend. Thus if anything happens, you might be among her first few choices to share her woes or confide with. (It might not happen due to excellent relationship with her bf but at least she has taken note of you.)
My suggestion is that there are many other chio and nice research graduates.
